The shadows she observed in the grass inspired her to develop an approach that however, did not paint the selected object onto canvas. The object becomes a representation that is its own with the canvas carrying an interpretation by painting of the object, particularly when it is a living thing or food item, for example, fruit or humans. The style that Alexa Meade paints exhibits a hazy quality and all left of Alexa Meade's work is her photo. The painting and the photographic techniques are so closely coordinated and result in a flat, two dimensional space which is able to achieve trompe l'oeil. The third dimension is only visible in specific areas, such as near the eyes or hair. Occasionally, Meade integrates her painted models into the three-dimensional world around them, allowing them to engage with their own self-created environment. By doing so, Meade has removed the borders between painting, photography and performance.
