She reported on sports for several of the largest outlets in the United States. She reported on basketball, football and Grand Slam Tennis for The Washington Post. Nichols started a nine-year period with ESPN where she was awarded two Emmy Awards, and featured on many of ESPN's top programs, including NFL Countdown and SportsCenter. She also worked as the correspondent of Monday Night Football on the network. After that, she was transferred onto CNN Sports as well as Turner. The first program she developed and hosted was named self-titled Unguarded together with Rachel Nichols, and aired regularly on CNN as well as CNN International. It boasted millions of viewers around the world. Nichols was a reporter for NBA television broadcasts for TNT, including the regular season, playoffs as well as All-Star broadcasts. Her duties with TBS covered golf and baseball coverage, as well as Final Four broadcasts by CBS. It was the only time in the award's 42-year-old history that a woman was nominated amongst the more than 200 nominees.
